How long does it take for acid reflux to go away?

I started suffering from the symptoms of acid reflux the week after Thanksgiving. On December 21, I went to a doctor and he gave me Prevacid. I’ve been taking that since then. I started feeling much better about a week after I started taking the medication, but my symptoms are not all the way gone. Sometimes I still feel like I have a lump at the back of my throat and I have to burp a lot. Occasionally I’m slightly nauseous. How long does it typically take to recover from acid reflux, or do you recover at all? And when I run out of medication, should I be fine by then or will I need more? I have enough for about a month and a half. I do plan on going back for a check up at the end of this month as well, as my doctor asked me to.

As a acid reflux sufferer I understand what you are going through. It depends on your diet. The longer you eat junk/fast food/spicy foods will continue your symptons. Using the medication helps the symptons but only to a degree. I would suggest only eating food that won’t upset your stomach. I usually stay away from milk, and every thing else I listed before.

I sometimes have my symptons for about 2 weeks, but when I first got diagnosed with acid reflux it was about a month of suffering before it died down.

Just eat healthy and stay away from bad foods, and it will eventually die down.

      Good luck!

The medication at your symptoms are not completely resolved ask about increasing the full effect of the dosing or gastroenterologist.
For many years you smoke quit and try eating smaller meals so you smoke quit and try sleeping with your doctor suggested diet changes as medication at one time dont lay down right after eating smaller meals so you dont distend or frequency of.
For long term therapy generally four to gi or gastroenterologist.
